In service since 1978, there are more than 2,500 Blackhawk helicopters flying for the U.S. and foreign militaries. Among its many missions is a mobile command and control configuration.
ViaSat has adapted its ArcLight® spread spectrum broadband satellite system to support that mission. Innovative new ArcLight software mitigates signal outages due to the Blackhawk rotor blades – which otherwise block the view to the satellite about 30% of the time. During the past year the Army, Boeing, and ViaSat have worked together to bring this upgraded command post to the skies. |
